I have a HP D4100E Win7 32 with 4gb ram. My computer has been restarting on its own on a regular basis. I get the following error message in event viewer: .Net Runtime Optimization Service ( clr_optimization_V4.0.30319-32) Service reached limit of transient errors. Will shut down. Last error returned from service Manager: 0x8000ffff. Strangely enough windows update has an upgrade to .net4.5.1 which I have done. I am not sure if this will solve the problem or not but wanted to run this by the experts as it is causing a problem.

    Thank you for the help.

    Hi

Had similar before on a PC I ended up working on and issue was a weird one, in the end I used the .Net Uninstaller Tool (note this will remove all none native .Net versions from Windows) and then re=run Windows update and checked for .Net updates and installed any extra .Net versions we needed, as in .Net 4.5 and all worked ok.

    Worth a try.

*nite possible need to re-install any .Net versions that 3rd party software needs*

After the first run of an updated version, I disallow .Net Runtime Optimization Service from starting up via Windows Management > Services. It might be worth trying.

I used the tool and have enclosed the log. It looks ugly but I am not sure what I am looking at. I ran update afterward and no additional updates came forward. Hopefully it is fixed but only time will tell. If there is anything else I can do to determine the integrity of my .Net file please advise.

thank you for your help and I will come back if it freezes up again.

    Best Regards,

I do that too, both .net 3.0 and 4.0 optimization services, after any .net update I have to change back to 'manual' otherwise it bugs out and wants to use 100% cpu on my machine after restart
I also untick all the added performance counters that come with 4.0, damn resource suckers.
