ok, so when i turn my comp on it loads up and gets to the window with the windows xp and the green bar scrolling accross and it doesn't do anything, so then i have to restart it, and it bring me to a screen that says windows didn't load proberly blah blah blah, and i can choose to: start normally, safe mode, safe mode with networking, safe mode with command prompt, or return to last known good settings, and no matter what i choose, it kinda starts to load its own way and then just restarts after a point and bring me back to this screen, i can't do anything to get it started, i dont know why, please help!!!!!!!!!

I'd suggest just putting the windows CD back into the system and try doing a repair.

It's hard to say what the problem is.

ya, i just did that, no prevale, now it goes to the windows loading screen and just sits there, then i have to restart and when then it says "No keyboard detected." so i have to turn it off and unplug it and turn it on again, im not sure why it does that, i think its my MB BIOS, gotta upgrade those, dont know how though, is that what the AWDFlash Utility is for?

sorry for getting off topic, anyways, i dont know what else to do, can anyone help me? should i try repair again? should i reinstall windows on top of it so i can get some of my files off then reformat and install?? i dont wanna reformat though, please help me, thanx!!

if it's a problem with the operating system itself booting up a repair install should fix it ... although that is not always the case ... although you needn't do the command prompt follow these instructions:

    http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm

I don't think you need to update the BIOS unless you rescently installed something that the BIOS doesn't recognize

ok, i already did that, but ill do it again for good measure

i dont think its my BIOS that is the problem, but i really do need to upgrade it, its an old version and has a lot of annoying bugs

if anyone else can think of ideas please let me know, this is totally confusing me, it makes no sense

thank you for the replys, i'll let u know if it works after i try another repair

ya, it doesn't work, when i first start it works fine, deletes and copies all the files it needs back onto the HD, then it gets to the point where it restarts, it restarts, eventually get to the Windows XP Professional loading screen and just sits there...... doing nothing..... so it never gets a chance to finish, the only thing i can do it restart the comp and start all over again, doesn't anyone know how i can get this to work?

should i try a clean install ontop of it to see if that will work??? or what?

    try memtest:

I'm assuming you have access to another computer or you wouldn't be able to post ... anyway you need a floppy just dl run rawrite.exe it will install onto the floppy then boot your broken PC with it and run it overnight

(i only gave you the link in the previous post as I was confused on whether you had done the repair install properly ... just sounded as if you were doing it via the recovery console ... didn't mean ta confuse you)

actually that doesn't fix anything ... it will tell you whether or not your RAM is good ... if you get errors then you will need to replace your RAM

WHAT??? i think i did get errors, so that means i have to get new ram??? are u sure??? does that mean the whole thing is completely dead? are u seriouse? is there no hope? :(

means you need to replace your RAM(if you have more than one stick of RAM you might try one at a time ... maybe only one of them is bad) ... on the bright side it doesn't sound like there is any else wrong with it
