New install or just started happening?

Does XP boot to the GUI ( Desktop )?

Have you installed anything new... hardware or device drivers?

Any info on the blue screen.. eg. error messages?

As in all the time is it every boot and won't let you get into windows or random and will let you get into windows on occasion?

A blue screen on boot is generally a hardware device has wrong or beta driver thats not compatable with your system or it could mean a failing device.

Start up in SAFE MODE. Uninstall anydriver or program that you installed just before you started to have the problem.

From desktop, right click 'My Computer', select 'Properties', select 'Advanced' tab, click 'Settings' under 'Startup & Recovery' and uncheck 'Automaticall Restart' under 'System Failure'

    Restart.

If driver or software uninstall solved the problem, you may be able to log on. But if the BSOD appears again, the machine will not restart and you'll be able to read some information. Then post any information you think relevent here and I'll help you further.

Eeek ah no as Xflat said no deleting drivers yet, there is the matter of answering my first set of questions.

blue screens can be a multitude of things and deleting ad hock is like testing bath water with both feet!

as posted earlier their was a mention of memory dump.. if windows crashes and reboot in some instances it will boot up with those blue screen and memory dumps.

we really need to know what you were doing, installed before this happened.

Agreed. Removing a bunch of drivers is not recommended, yet... we want to see the contents of the BSD. More specifically, the first line. It may point to a SPECIFIC driver that is causing the problem. We can then focus on that one particular item.

    last thing installed...

    Software
    Nba Live 2003
    Dreaweaver
    Ghost Recon(after problem)

    Hardware
    CD Burner

is there a way to copy the problem or to see the error message without copying all that down

    HEre the whole blue screen

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer

if this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer.
If this screen appears again , follow these steps: (which i dont know ho to do them)

Check to be sure you have adequate disk space. if a driver is identified in the stop message, disable
the driver or check with manufacturer for driver updates.
    Try changing video adapter
Check with your harware vendor for any BIOS updates. Disable BIOS memory option suck as caching
    or shadowing

OK mate. I think your problem may be caused by the newly installed CD Burner. I found on the net that: "problems with win32k.sys can occure if some of the following hardwares are "sharing" IRQs: VGA, soundblaster and Networking card.
Each of the components above must be assigned with a unique IRQ, but this isn't easy in XP when the OS doesn't really differ from conflicts/sharing"

Did you change any BIOS settings recently? If you did that, may be you'd want to set BIOS settings to defaults. If you didn't, then no need to get into the BIOS.

You may want to remove the burner from system and then turn it on and try to boot.

Do not be disappointed if the problem is still there. There will be a way out.

OK just reading the threads thought id jump in on this one, (couldn't resist been suffering withdrawal)

    Hi moptix
Dont panic about the bios password just yet (although that should be easy enough to sort if needed) that error can be a lot of things
You need to answer some of the previous questions posted, does this behavior still occur in safe mode, have you tried just unplugging the drive and attempting to boot your machine, once into windows can you check your event viewer for any helpful information...
    Start--Run--Type Eventvwr.msc--OK

Thats Spyware m8, i suggest you read the relevant threads in the F.A.Qs here at majorgeeks mainly the ones related to Spyware
    http://www.majorgeeks.com/vb/forumdisplay.php?f=33
Theres some info on msbb.exe here including a link for an uninstaller

Ok well post back with the answers to my questions and I'm sure well be able to help you out ;)

yes it happens in SAFE MODE TOO

If MSBB spyware can cause stop error in Win32k.sys, I'll be very amused.

Moptix, can't you boot at all? Or does it sometimes let you into the safe mode? If you can't even boot in safe mode, you're in trouble buddy. Coz handling these things from DOS will definitely be tricky for you.

Anyway m8, even if your PC remains in this non working state for years, do not ever ever remove any driver or look for password.. nobody likes doing it ;)

    HMMM.. Maybe thats sarcasm

I dont recall suggesting that the MSBB spyware was the root cause of his problem, he listed it in a post and when id finished giving advice on his original problem, i gave him some info on the second problem, forgive me for trying to help

As for my original questions posed, moptix only replied to the first one so its established this behaviour still happens in Safe-Mode Therefore highly unlikely to be a driver issue ;)
Just need a response to my other Two questions posed now

As far as removing Passwords, if you took the time to read my post you will see i never suggested not removing the password in fact i mentioned how simple this would be if needed ;)
Just thought it would be easier start at the beginning and rule out the obvious before moving on to the second phase, no point using a sledgehammer to crack a nut :D

GLS, even if it was sarcasm, it wasn't meant for you ;)

MSBB.exe is a lame spyware and can be uninstalled from the Add Remove Programs. "End of story", but yet no end. The BSOD will still come up.

As I said before MSBB.exe is not capable of causing a access violation stop error in memory at hardware level so that the pc even doesn't boot up!

OK moptix adds me on MSN, lets see what I can do for him. I'll post the results here.
