Let me preface this problem first with, I just put this computer together yesterday. I purchased a Core i7 960 bought a refurbished motherboard, and 8gb DDR3 RAM. Everything else, video card, sound card etc... came from my previous built.

The problem is, after assembling the new build before formatting my hard drive and installing windows, I would have to use the power button to shut off the computer (trying to work with the BIOS to have my dvdrw drive as first boot priority to install windows). When I do this though, it restarts itself after 4-5 seconds, every single time. In order to truly shut my computer off I have to use the power switch on the back of my power supply.

Flash forward a few hours, I have Windows 7 installed now. I installed drivers and updates to Windows so I let it do it's thing. I went to Start -> Shutdown after it was done and the computer powered off, but like before 4-5 seconds later it turned itself back on.

I'm stumped, I've looked over BIOS settings and have found nothing that seems to jump out at me that may be the cause. I'm using a Phoenix Award BIOS on a refurbished EVGA 132-BL-E758-RX LGA 1366 Intel X58 3X SLI ATX Intel Motherboard.

I've checked my pin settings from my case to the motherboard and nothing seemed to stick out there either... but I'm no expert.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I don't think it can be a hardware problem with the switch as that would lead to the computer shutting down randomly.

Are you sure you trust the refurbishers of the motherboard 100%?

I just went through this same thing, for starters right click my computer then go to advanced got to system start up and debugging. There you will see the option of auto restart uncheck it that will let you if it a software issue.

No. That is why I'm leaning towards a faulty motherboard. I switched to my old one and it worked fine... sending this "new" one back.
