Computer Running Slow

TimW suggested I post in here.

My computer is running slow and occasionally lags.
I thought it might be malware, but checking over int hat forum shows my computer is clean.

With everything closed Physical Memory is at 1.6GB.
Right now with 6 Chrome Tabs and 2 Epic Browser tabs I'm up to 4.37GB

Are Browsers that resource intensive? any other suggestions?

 

May not be the browser but the content that is on each tab you have open. Video? Podcast? Maybe bookmark a few tabs and return to the sites when needed instead of keeping it open.

Also, add-ons (plugins & extensions) consume memory.

Check in Task Manager what's consuming the memory.

 

Google Chrome does use a lot of system resources especially with multi tabs open. If you are willing to switch to Firefox you might see that your system resources aren't that much compared to google chrome. Just be careful with extensions as these can use more resources than others.

 

Check the startup items.
Look at my PC's RAM usage at idle - 546 MB (Windows 7 Ultimate).

 

Eldon, that isn't a standard Task Manager view. Could you explain please how you generate it?
