Trying to help a friend with their computer and I'm a bit bamboozled as what to do next. The computer is iQon, processor pentium (sorry don't know anymore) (ddr 333 mhz pc2700)256 ram, no graphics card on board, XP OS and gigabyte mother board 85661FXMP-RZ

The problem is that it won't show no display at all from the moment is turned on tried different monitors and no dice. I can power on and off with power button with no beeps and fans floppy and dvd drive work.

Also I've tried a graphics card pwaG4000 still no luck other than a new power supply what else can I do?

Can you access the BIOS, by tapping either F10, F2, or del on boot up? I don't know which one, hard to find much on iQon.

Does the display at least have a blinking cursor?

If you can access BIOS, the MOBO should be ok.

Then try reseating the RAM sticks, and any and all connections to and from the HD. And look for anything else, anything loose, erupted capacitors, etc.

It could be either the MOBO or HD is gone, or could just be a bad connection.

Also try taking out the RTC battery and allow CMOS to clear, probably won't help but worth a try.

I'm not a Major Geek, this is just a dumbass list of things I'd try in the same situation. Might or might not help.

1.) Try a new connection cable - don't laugh, those things can go wrong.
2.) Check what happens if you start it in SAFE mode. Do you see anything as it's booting up then? Usually you see a whole long list of stuff coming up in SAFE mode.
3.) If you've got the disk, reinstall Windows. NOT the full-on, wipe-hard drive reinstall, but the gentle repair one that just copies fresh files over corrupted files. It might be a corrupted screen driver - you can't see if anything's saying 'Help - my drivers aren't working!' don't forget. Doing it that way means your own data files, that you've kept meticulously backed up (of course you have - haven't you!?!) aren't touched, just the Windows files.

That's about all I can think of for now! Tell me if any of those work for starters..

    Yours respectfully

I can't detect if I can access the bios since from initial boot no screen.

Try everything suggested. But if you can't access the BIOS, this would likely indicate a bad motherboard.

Have you thought of trying a new screen? Maybe the screen's blown. Happens... Or try the screen you've got on a different PC.

    Yours hopefully

Normally many a times a defective memory stick is the culprit.....faulty power supplies come second....he should have checked these first before buying a new one.

Not at all, the MB might just not be getting power.
Personally, I would say it was the PSU, 99% of cases like this are, the rest being MB or VGA, or RAM, in that order.
