Computer shuts down during startup

I hope someone still looks at this. Computer is shutting down right at boot up, bios is reset and power supply swapped, this started after I took CPU out to clean fan, everything is set right but now it will not stay on. Once in awhile I can get to login screen but mostly only when it tries to read the bios.

Can you post some hardware specs for us as in Make and Model of PC if from the likes of Dell, HP, Acer etc or if a home build the Make and Model of motherboard ( as you have had your PC open before the name and model are normally printed on the board somewhere)?

Are you sure that the CPU is re-fitted perfectly and no bent pins from taking the CPU out?

Double check the power connectors as modern CPUs need a 12v power connection too, small 4 pin connection.

If you can get into the BIOS then double check that the settings are correct and see if you can set the 1st boot device to the main HDD, then save and exit the BIOS.

Hi,
Did you re-apply new thermal paste when you put the CPU back?? as its not a very good idea to re use the old paste!! Was the old paste removed properly i.e... alcohol wipe and latex gloves.

Thanks David, but I finally figured it out. The plastic bracket holding the fan on the CPU broke and is not holding the CPU still, had to replace.
