99% of shut downs are caused by heat. Open the computer up and clean out the inside. Check that all fans are operational. You might also have to add more thermal compound.

    Do you get any errors?

Open up the case and give it a good clean especially the heatsink.

If that doesn't solve the problem download memtest86. create a bootable CD and test your RAM.

Other possibilities are PSU or hard disk. but you can test them later. Start with clean up and memory as they are easy to test.

  4. Thanks the dust was the problem but ill still do a ram check just to see

  5. the shut downs are not as frequent but still occurring I can't seem to get the memtest86 to work using poweriso i tried extracting the .zip and burned the isolunix.bin to the dvd is there something im missing

To check for system integrity, run OCCT, if your machine fails at some point, you'll have some 8 graphs to look at forensically. Let it run for an hour and most faults will appear. I run this for 24 hrs. to make sure a newly built machine will perform. As to memmtest86, OCCT should be able to graph that in its own way. If you think your machine is wimpy in any area, this will either corroborate your findings or send you off in a totally different direction..

That looks like a pretty nifty piece of software! Ill have to keep that in mind.

  8. Yeah That OCCT program wouldn't download from this site or the authors site either any suggestions? PS: The heatsink is that the paste or the cover to the processor?

Just be sure you want to risk your machine by running it, some machines just give up the ghost when stressed that hard when they could have gone on for years.

That's weird man.:confused I just downloaded a copy to my old/new HDD a few hours ago. As to the heatsink, I think of it as one system along with the fan on top. If one goes bad then they all do. The paste is between the CPU and what you call the cover. Do not touch it with your fingers as your skin oils will contaminate the paste.

Since you've gone this far already, I'd clean both surfaces with %70 Isopropyl alcohol at least with a lint free cloth until shiny. Then apply a bead looking like a grain of rice in the middle, AS 5 is the best but anything will do. AS=Arctic Silver
