Hi all, my friend has a Win Xp Hp that is about 2 years old. However, sometimes when she clicks on a link, or just when ever, ( not doing anything specific, it happens at all times), her computer shuts down.

This is the error she got, does this help anyone? She already made sure the fan works, and made sure the computer is not overheating..

Can anyone help, thanks in advance

    Rhonda

P.S we already did a virus scan and disabled start up items, along with a system restore.

Could be ram, driver conflict ...etc.
Check that your bios is reporting the ram accurately.

Check for conflicts in device manager .....

what file system is the error report coming from?

Ok how do we check from the bios about the ram, i'm wondering about that as well.... I did say something about she said about installing or uninstalling new hardware, but that was the only thing that she wrote down.

When she I reccomended she do the diskcleanup.... it did shut down on her.

    Thanks for your replies

not in this thread ....the ram is ok ......

the zipped summary report from everest may help.

If you think it is malware:
Bitdefender agree to the license and then select Scan. DO NOT CHANGE THE OPTIONS TO SHOW ALL FILES SCANNED. That will make your logs huge and we don't need to see clean files. Once Bitdefender completes the scan:

Click-on the Detected Problems tab. Then select Click here to export the scan report

When the window comes up to save the report, change the Save as type: box to Text (Tab Delimited) (*.txt) and then in the File name box enter change to bdscan then click save. This will save a file named bdscan.txt in whatever folder you are currently in when you save the file (take notice of where you are at so you can find it later). This bdcan.txt file will actually contain HTML code that we can easily view later while reviewing your log. All we have to do is rename the file to bdscan.html.

A low level ram check with memtest86+ is a first sign for bad ram...But, XP does use ram in strange ways. I'd take out one of those ram sticks and see if the computer acts normally.
