Computer shutting down

Alright, so I'm not sure if this is the right catagory, but okay.. So, my computer shuts down sometimes when I have Bittorrent running. Just randomly. Sometimes it will the first 2 minutes, sometimes it won't at all. To me, it seems like it's doing this for no reason.

My computer also shuts down if I click on 'My Computer' & "My Documents" & I think 'Control Panel' during about the first 10 minutes that the computer has been on. Note that I don't have Bitorrent running during this, so it's completely unrelated.

Other than those two instances, my computer only shuts down when I make it. So.. What's causing these problems?

 

Have you tried a new power supply?

 

Does it do the same from Safe Mode? I'm wondering if you may have a corrupt dll file somewhere.

 

Does it switch off as if all power is lost and you have to press the power button to get it back on? I've seen this before and it was an overheating CPU. I know the answer is more than likly 'No' but is there anything in the event log?

 

It can be worth running sfc /scannow, to check/replace any damaged Windows files - or try CHKDSK /R (- start, and type in sfc /scannow , -or, CHKDSK /R in
the run box )
You will need the XP disc for sfc /scannow.(I'm assuming you are running XP)

But if you are not sure about any of the files it may say have changed just report back without changing or replacing any and then we can let you know what is what.
