Hi! Hope somebody can help me with my problem. My computer started shutting down unexpectedly, I believe because of a virus, I reinstalled my Windows, but it kept shutting down after almost 20 minutes. Apparently I do not have any malaware problems right now so I think it is a system restore problem, also because everytime I open it my computer is checking system files on D. Tonight AVG blocked some threats, which are attached below.

    Thanks in advance!

There may be some things in the system restore points.

What I would do in your situation (and being sure not to need any of the older system restore points), was to run the Windows Disk Cleanup tool, then have it delete all old restore points except the last one. Then run a full AVG scan again.

Regarding the computer shutting down unexpectedly, go and check the Event Viewer and look for something at the time of the last shutdown.

    you could also check under

    start menu/control panel/system/advanced/start-up and recovery/settings

there is a little box that says "automatically restart" that is automatically on when you install windows and that can cause some seriously irritating problems if your memory is not configured properly

Thanks very much for all your input,I've tried everything but it didn't work. I'm wondering if I should create a restore point. Regarding the event viewer I have 4 errors that repeat themselves, I think when the computer shuts down. 2 are named netevent.dll and the source is Service Control Manager and 2 are named loLogMsg.dll on D and the source is ntfs. I would really appreciate any advice and input regarding this issue.

    Greetings, Vanillaheroine...

As mentioned by TimW in your Malware Forum thread, you need to toggle your System Restore to clear any infected restore points. To do so:

    1. Navigate to Control Panel > System Properties > System Protection > Configure. While in this section, do everything obvious to turn off Restore and to delete any restore points.

    2. Reboot your machine.

    3. Navigate back to this section to reverse the procedure and enable System Restore.

    4. Create a new restore point, which should now be clean.

    ************

Now as far as your sudden restarts: as mentioned by Shadow1like, you should disable the Windows automatic restart and make sure the machine is configured to save memory dumps - a quick tutorial for doing so is located here. After this is accomplished, then the next time your machine crashes, navigate to the C: > Windows > Minidumps folder, copy those files to the Desktop, and zip and upload them as an attachment to your next post.

Vanillaheroine does your computer shut down completely, as in no power?
If so, there is a good chance this is heat related.
When a computer gets too hot, it will shut off completely to protect the hardware.

Thanks plodr, the heat was the first think I have checked. All my problems were caused by a virus.
