I'm not getting my problem solved at the other board.
Hope it's ok to cross-reference my problem.
Sometimes I can get to Safe Mode, but then it shuts off before I can do much.
A couple of times I got this message:
    P/N 113-78506-101 RV100 785 HYUNDAI DDR with DLL BIOS
    I don't think I have a rescue disk.
I have the original Windows 2000 CD, but I can't afford to lose the data on my hard drives. Will a reinstall wipe them out?
I tried last known good configuration.
I looked for system restore in system tools, but couldn't find it.
I did the unplug, switch from 100 to 220 and back, press power button for 30 seconds, plug back in. Didn't do anything much different for it.
What I've done so far (pretty much) is at the post below.
    Thanks for any help.

I'm no expert on Windows 2000, but it doesn't have System Restore.

I think only ME or XP do.

You seem to have tried a few things, so probably the best suggestion is to install Windows 2000 over itself (if you don't format, and just install the O/S over itself, it will preserve programs and settings).

I would also remove as much hardware as possible that isn't vital.

Thanks for the tip, insomniac (yawn):)
Hopefully we can get some corroboration on your recommendation.

If that ain't country, this ain't the US of A.
I appreciate your help. I hope you have a sense of humor, too.
    I sure could use one.

Sounds like a memory problem. Go here then do some testing.

Will do if I can get the computer to stay on.
    Thanks for the tip.

Did memtest on all unused ram.
41.2% coverage with no errors before computer froze. It didn't turn itself off, though.

If you have more than one stick of memory & your system will allow it try taking all sticks out except one & see how that goes.

If it freezes again swap the ram over & try again.

Are you running the mem test from a boot disc? Not inside windows.

    I don't know.
I'm not sure if I know where the memory is.
I can probably figure it out, though.
I don't know how to test it from a boot disk.
I learned how to boot from CD yesterday in order to repair from the installation CD, but I couldn't do that because the hard drives couln't be found by the Windows setup program.
How do I tell if my system will allow taking sticks of memory out?

Ill agree that it sounds like a memory problem...if it was me id just take a stick or w/e and see what happens. and swap them around to see if anything changes, assuming u have more than 1 stick in their. if not then i would find some further convincing that its a ram prob before i bought some. Unfortunealty i cant quite help ya there, im not the smartest one around :(

    Thanks for the replies.
I'm up and running again, but I don't know for how long.
    All seems normal or better.
I reseated some cables, changed the boot sequence, and tried some other tips that I couldn't get to work.
    Maybe it was prayer.
Hopefully I'll be ready if there is a next time.
Thanks for all the help and resources here.
