computer Slow

    My downstairs computer is very slow... I looked in the processes and there about 30 of them going when the computer is idle, I was just wondering if anyone could help me out... I have done all of the recommended steps in the Sticky thread and still runs slow, HJT have been created, thanks

    30 Processes is not necessarily too many. It all depends on what they are.
    Give some more info on this PC (like processor type and speed, amount of RAM, Hard disk size, internet connection type) and then post your log as an attachment.

    sorry I lied, It's 40 processes, and I just feel the computer is lagging bad. specs are:

    Intel
    Pentium 4 1.6 GHz
    512 mb Ram
    40 Gb Maxtor
    10 Gb Maxtor Removable HDD
    Windows XP Home
    Internet is Highspeed ( :rolleyes: )

    Many of your process are due to the bloated software from Symantec. At least 8 of the processes are from it. There are two other processes that are update reminder programs. One from Logitech and one from Creative Labs. You don't need them but that's up to you. They are:
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [UpdReg] C:\WINDOWS\Updreg.exe
    O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [LDM] C:\Program Files\Logitech\Desktop Messenger\8876480\Program\BackWeb-8876480.exe

    You should consider uninstalling MessengerPlus2. We removed it from MG's because it installs malware and also LOP.

    Run HijackThis and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    O1 - Hosts: comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {30A56549-9D5B-4D34-AFA7-440A7F0538A9} - (no file)
    O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {CD67F990-D8E9-11d2-98FE-00C0F0318AFE} - (no file)
    O9 - Extra button: @Home - {FE44DDF4-FEB0-4A68-A11F-E9FE4D89C713} - http://www/ (file missing) (HKCU)
    O16 - DPF: {56336BCB-3D8A-11D6-A00B-0050DA18DE71} (RdxIE Class) - http://207.188.7.150/160e9b8b3aad4414cf16/netzip/RdxIE601.cab
