Every time I hit the start button it freezes on the BIOS screen. If I hit the reset button it loads just fine. This problem only happens when the system is completely cooled down. If I try and start it while the system is still warm (within in about an hour) it will load fine. I have tried everything I can think of and everything ASUS told me to do. Has anybody had this problem? What else should I try? ASUS told me it might be one of the things I have plugged into a USB port??? I told them all I have is a keyboard and a wireless mouse plugged in. I tried stating it with no USB things in and did the same thing! The entire system is about a month old, this problem has been happening ever since the first time I started it. When I get it started everything is great, stress tested it for over 24 hours with prime95 and memory tests, not a problem. With my EVGA 8800 GTX I was pulling low 12,000s for scores in 3Dmark06. The system is stable as can be when it gets going. WHAT ELSE CAN I TRY? Thanks for the help!:major

    XION II Case
    ASUS P5N-E 650i SLI
    Intel Q9300
    ANTEC 650w SLI PSU
    Corsair XMS2 800 MHz 4x1 GB
EVGA 7900 GT (waiting on my 9800 GTX ;))
    Vista Home Premium 64bit

    Things I have tried

    - Memory test and tried starting with 1 GB and switched the RAM every witch way possible, even tried the RAM from my daughters Dell XPS 400

    - Asus told me to try replace the CMOS battery, did that, the system looses time and date about every third day or so, same problem

    - Asus told me to replace the hard drive cables, did that

    - Updated BIOS and flashed it 3 times so far (while on the phone with ASUS)

    - Changed BIOS settings every witch way ( ASUS was telling me what to on the phone)

    - Asus told me reinstall the 650i chipset driver package (did that and really froze the thing for about a day) Got them from Nvidia web site where they told me too. Thoes drivers are crap.

    - Updated every driver I could.

Your description points to a cold boot issue.

Before and after every a bios flash, clear cmos & load defaults in bios. Fact is most users don't bother to do those.

The nvidia driver package comes with a few things/drivers. One of them shouldn't be installed. I think it's IDE SW or SW IDE. MS has a built-in driver for IDE. The other thing that shouldn't be installed is nvidia firewall. Also, ntune can be fine the 1st few months and can cause problems later on.

I believe your 4 sticks of ram needs more than stock voltage. Try 2.1v in bios.

Nvidia ntune and Nvidia monitor freeze my computer as soon as I open them forcing me to do hard shutdown. Thanks for the help I'll give them a try and see what happens. This is my first build so kinda confused. I don't know all the real technical stuff! Thanks, I'll give it a try and write you back. :major
