This particular desktop is already about 6 years old, recently ( for the past 2 months) it has been getting a blue screen when the system is started sometimes.

Sometimes the pc would freeze during use not not frequently. Well a couple of days ago it just decided to not be able to do anything. It can load into windows but anything beyond that is useless. The system will not read any commands from the keyboard or mouse, or on screen keyboard.

I tried 3 different mouses/keyboards and nothing. I initially thought it could be a usb port issue since all of these are wireless mouses and keyboards but that wasn't the case since i tried a PS/2 mouse and keyboard and it still had the same problem.

The keyboards and mouse seem to light up but no commands are being read by the computer. Prior to this issue being present a virus, malware, spyware etc scan was done and everything came clean so i really doubt it might be something related to that. Even if that were the case it seems unlikely i will be able to run any of that since i stated the computer does not read any commands whatsoever.

I unplugged the hard drive and tried to use the keyboard on bios and it does seem to read it.

I also noted my in laws pc seems to be running a different type of windows operating system, below in the right corner it says ''you are not running a genuine operating system of windows''. Its windows 7 ultimate 64 bit.

So perhaps this issue has to do something with the operating system? But what does the blue screen indicate?

Also is installing a new operating system simple? If its indeed the operating system i think he may be able to find the recovery operating system which was included when he bought the pc.

When the pc was already showing issues i told my brother in law to back up all his data ( that he wanted and or needed) to an external hard drive which he did. At this point wiping the hard drive clean of all data doesn't really matter since its all backed up, i guess i just want insight on a fix.

Sounds like glitches in your OS, but I would recommend you check your hard drive also just to make sure there are no bad sectors, or you could even listen for any rackling noise emitting from it. Just a suggestion.

This application sounds useful , but remember i mentioned i can't do anything in the OS?

I can't click or press keys ( because the system won't read them) on anything while in the menu or going into safe mode , or even before( or after) it launches the operating system.

The only way it seems to read keys is if i unplug the hard drive.
