Alright, so here's the deal. Until yesterday, my computer was running fine. Then, while I was playing Torchlight, it crashed. Had scrambled colors all over the screen. So I reset my computer and everything seemed to be fine. load up the game again, and several minutes in, does the same thing. Reset my computer again. Get all logged in, and before I can do anything the computer shuts down. I've checked all the fans, and they're working, so if it's a heat issue, I don't know what else to do.

I took out the video card, and that seems to have resolved the issue for now, but it's obviously not a permanent fix. Help?

I've attached the log file from SIW so I believe that gives all the information needed and then some. Also, the video card I had in was a Zotac GeForce 9500GT.

Well, I've just figured out it's not the graphics card, as my computer just shut down on me. my friend said it might be the GPU overheating and that I might need to replace the thermal paste? How would I figure that out?

CPU you mean? Sounds like a possiblilty

Tool to monitor the temps of all your temp sensors and fans, should give you a good place to start.

How old is the PC and can you see if any dust has built up around the heat sink on the CPU or possibly just between the fan and heat sink?

I'm now pretty sure something is overheating, as, according to SpeedFan, something is at 127C and something else is at 95C, but I have no idea how to fix it or why things are suddenly overheating.

    it has the following temps:

    GPU: 0C
    Temp1: 33C
    Temp2: 127C
    Temp3: 95C
    HD0: 38C
    Temp1: 40C
    Core: 28C

the computer is about 2 years old. I had to replace the motherboard earlier this year. I've cleared out all the dust and still no luck :-/

    ok try this program then...

as you are installing it will ask you to install a toolbar and yontoo layers...

avoid this by opening the install file click ACCEPT then DECLINE and DECLINE at the bottom

    gives good temp info

alright, it's giving me these readings:

    Tj. Max: 70 C
    CPU #0: 28 C

28c is fine for a CPU. As suggested above by VoiD, I think it's the video card. If you know 100% for sure that the video card is OK, then it could be RAM (unlikely, but possible), or the power supply. If the PC crashes only when under a load or stress (like when gaming), a sketchy/failing power supply would likely shut itself off if voltages and current got out of spec (actually, most decent PSUs have these types of protections built in). I would however recommend running something like HWmonitor and leave it running while gaming. If possible, exit the game before the PC crashes, take a screen shot of the HWmonitor window and post it here as an attachment so we can see the min/max readings for temps and voltages....
