    I made a post here because my computer was shutting down and restarting by itself with no error messages. I thought it was the PSU so I swapped with an older one and it worked for a while but then shut itself down again.

    My computer no longer boots AT ALL. When I try everything spins up but no motherboard beep, peripherals don't turn on and the HDD makes some rapid scratching noises. It does this about 5 times and then just goes silent and I can only turn it off by holding down the power button.

    I'm hoping for some clarification as my current guess is that I've killed my HDD.

    Specs;
    GPU radeon HD7870
    CPU Intel i5 3570k ivy bridge
    Mobo Maximus V Gene
    RAM 8gb (2x 4gb)
    PSU OCZ 700W and now tried with ocz 500W
    HDD 1tb Samsung.

    That scratching sound means the head(s) is/are contacting the platter(s). Time for a new HDD. Sorry.
