Computer won't boot, new issues

Hardware seems to be fixed, next I installed a Lite-on Cd-rw burner and a ScanDisk 12 in 1 Card reader, this is a win. 98SE machine, all patched and current with updates, the drivers and firmware are up to date, problem is the computer will NOT "restart" when prompted to do so from the Start menu - it will "shutdown" just fine when prompted to do so from the Start menu - installs for the above went fine and both devices are working perfect - the "restart" was working OK before these items were installed - I'm running Nero 6.6 software - everything else seems to be fine - any thoughts ????

 

Only thing I can think of right now, is to remove one of the new devices, and trying to reboot. Then try the same with the other device. You want to narrow down which one is causing you issues.

 

Problem solved, after uninstalling all new software and rebooting, then reinstalling one at a time and checking, the problem with restarting still existed, then for the hell of it I uninstalled Nero 6.6 and installed the Nero ver. that came with the Burner, ver. 6.0 , that solved the problem with restarting, go figure ??!!
Another problem I encountered was with the SanDisk 12 in 1 Card reader, the software and driver installed ok and the Card reader lights came on but the reader was not recognized in the Device Man. and the removable drives did not show under My Computer, after many uninstalls and reinstalls to no avail I removed the Card Reader from its stand and used the 6" pigtail to plug directly into the USB port, wouldn't you know it worked just fine, I had a defective stand for the Reader - this might help someone else out down the road -
