alright, I've been reading your forums for a while trying to solve this problem no no avail.

My computer just simply won't turn on. No fans, nothing. Everything appears to be connected properly and seated well. It first happened 3 days ago - it wouldn't start at all and I opened the case and looked around (not noticing anything wrong) so I held the power button for 5s and an orange light on the motherboard (evga 750i sli ftw) went out. When I next pressed the power button it booted up fine and worked all day.

Yesterday when I went to turn it on, same thing. It wouldn't turn on at all, but after holding the power button for 5s (making the orange light go off) it turned on.

Today it wouldn't start and my "hack" didn't work. It still makes the orange light go off but when I press the power the orange light just comes back on with nothing else starting. I tried removing the cmos battery on the mobo for 2 mins and putting it back in which did nothing. I've tried to make sure that all the connections are good.

Does this mean my mobo/psu is fried?

    help!

    thanks!

Can we get the make and model of the computer please? The number you have provided is the code for an error LED.

    CPU: Intel Q9550
    HD: WD Caviar Black 1TB
    RAM: 4GB Mushkin
    GPU: Sapphire Radeon 4870 1GB
    Mobo: EVGA 750i SLI FTW
    PSU: OCZ 850w (GameXtreme)

    I built it myself.

Also I just did a "jump test" or whatever (shown here: http://www.ocztechnologyforum.com/wiki/index.php?title=Testing_a_problematic_PSU_(jump_start) ) and the power supply started up, but I called OCZ and they said that could only test if the PSU was NOT working, not if it was working. It may still be broken according to them even though this test worked. ???

    So yeah still no dice.

Try swapping the PSU out for a spare and see if that solves the issue.

hmm I don't have any spare ones that I can get access to that I can think of.. is it worth buying one now? What are the chances of it being the psu vs the mobo?

I suggest you ask a tech shop if you can borrow one. Most are very helpful like this.

do these symptoms mean at least one of the pieces of hardware are malfunctioning for sure?
