i am running windows vista ultimate edition and i just installed McAfee Total Protection. I rebooted and now it wont boot at all! i even tried booting into safe mode but it still wont work. I can get to the loading screen (with the moving bar) and then it goes black. when it goes black there is just a black screen with a cursor thats movable

when i boot into safe mode the same thing happens. i cant boot from any cd

im just about ready to throw this thing out the window and i need this thing to boot because i have a paper to write i have tried every thing i can think of and it all results in a black screen with a cursor.

something thats weird is that if i leave the black screen running, then a sort of screen saver begins to play with the vista logo apearing every once in awhile

Can you list the specs of the computer? Have you made any changes in the last few weeks other than installing McAfee? Sounds like a weird problem.

Have you got the McAfee vista compatable upgrade ?
Knowing how picky, and buggy Vista seems to be, I would contact McAfee to see if they have an answer.

Best I can find, is question page for McAfee

You will need to click on-line forum - but I would not rely on help.
I will have a look around, as it is difficult to get all the information on Vista, but not impossible. Vista seems to have a shut down ststem, for practically anything it don't like, and then is extremely difficult to get back into, and do a normal format , if you have to. There are others ways to reformat, if necessary, but you can lose your data

Did you download the Mcafee or buy a CD?
What EXACTLY do you mean by I can't boot from any CD?

(s)he can't boot from safe mode or anything else!
If it's the Mcafee Cd (I hope) this contains a boot 'recovery' option.

I misread the safe mode non start, sorry Studiot, and YaItsKndaLykDat .
If a screensaver is trying to come in, , I wonder is it has hibernated ?
That was a problem with XP PRO, wasn't it ?

yes i made sure that i got the vista compatible upgrade

my system is a 32-bit so there shouldn't be any compatibility issues there.
