Recently bought a new CPU and RAM, they are compatible with my current MOBO so i know there is no issues there.
Before installing the new CPU I updated my BIOS.

When I got the new stuff, I shut off the computer completely, shut off the PSU and disconnected everything, took the old stuff out, installed the new stuff.

Replugged everything in, started up, and it started up without issue.

I ran a few programs to check what kind of difference it was making, then decided to OC a little.
The cpu is unlocked so OCing is relatively easy.

I tried a few settings but I just was not able to make it 100% stable, although it did seem to be running really well at 3.85ghz, except for when I opened one of my cpu intensive games, it would run for a bit then crap out by just shutting off the computer.
I went back into the BIOS and noticed I was accidentalyl running the 800mhz RAM at 880, so I changed the settings so it would run at 3.85mhz CPU and 800mhz on the RAM.

Restarted fine, went back into the game i was running, and noticed I was getting a whopping 3-6FPS when I should have been getting at LEAST 15 or more.

Deciding that it might just be too much, I reverted the settings down to 3.5ghz CPU and restarted the computer.
The computer screen was black, something I normally see when im trying to overclock too much, but I just had it at 3.8 and it was fine.

I shut off the computer, waited a minute, and turned it back on. The screen came on, and it loaded right into where I log in to windows. I typed in my password, it sat for a minute, the the computer shut off.

I went back into the bios and reset back to default settings and started up again.

Same thing, got to the login screen, logged in, and the computer shut off.

Thought maybe my default bios settings had not enough juice flowing, so I increased the voltage up to 1.35, restarted the comp, and had the same issue.

I took out the cmos battery, and let the computer sit for 10 minutes, put the cmos back in, fired it up, and got
" dqs training failed on previous boot reverted to slower dram speed"
I pressed F1 to resume, and we booted back into the log in screen, where it promptly shut off the computer again.

I booted into safe mode, and was able to get into windows with no issues, I restarted and booted into safe mode with networking and went to PCPitstop for a full scan.
Once it got to the performance section, the computer shut off again.

I put the win 7 disk in, and went to the repair config, and checked the startup config. It found no issues.
I then went to the RAM check, and there was no issues.

Now i'm at a loss, as sometimes it is crapping out even just opening the windows repair dialogue, but it is almost guaranteed in normal windows mode, and i've had it happen a couple times now in safe mode when i didnt before.

I assume the CPU is fine, as it gets well past POST.
    RAM appears to be ok.
PSU Maybe? Better not be I just got this not that long ago (although i'm sure its been about a year and these things die on me pretty well once a year )

I'm just not sure what else to try.
I did try disconnecting my GPU and seeing if it would die without it connected, and it did.
I assumed when it was in the login prompt and typed my password and hit enter, the HD started working, and then it crapped out, no different than if I had the GPU plugged in and was able to see what I was doing.

When I am in safe mode I've checked the hard drives and they all appear without issue

So here is where i'm at.

    Not GPU
    Not RAM
    Not CPU
Not Windows 7 start up files
    Not PSU (probably)
    Not HD's

    I'm at a loss here.

And at this point, I cant boot into safe mode anymore. I get the same issue as if it was normal windows

This is all a bit over my head but one thing that jumped out was when you removed the cmos battery to clear cmos did you also remove AC power at the same time? You wanted to do both. I'm wondering how it would know that there was a previous DRAM error if cmos was truly cleared?

When i remove the CMOS, or do anything else in the computer, I ALWAYS flick the switch on the PSU, and unplug the computer completely, so when I did this it was the same thing, completely unplugged, and then the battery removed for at least 10 minutes

That's good. It was just a thought because it referred to previous boot. I hope someone more experienced with overclocking and hardware in general will help you troubleshoot. :)

After many many attempts at many many things, the issue continued where when i began loading into windows, weather in safe, normal, or even in windows repair which was new because it didnt crash before, the computer always would shut off.

I then pulled my GFX card and put in an old working one, and the comptuer still crapped out, i then pulled the new RAM out and put the old in, still had a crapout, I left the old stuff in and replaced the new CPU with the old, and I had another crapout, but upon restarting again I actually managed to get into windows without issue.

After looking and searching and trying to find a fix, or figure out what the problem is/was, i'm currently trying to install windows 7 64bit onto a different hard drive.

I wanted to put it in anyway so this is a good chance for me to start new.

I'm currently installing 64bit, when that loads and everything appears ok, I will check the BIOS and any drivers I need for the new 64 bit, then attempt the new stuff again.
I think I will try the new RAM first, then install the new CPU if it doesnt crap out from the ram, if it still doesnt crap out, then lucky me.

Still not sure what the issue would be though.
There is no way i buggered the MB or the CPU or the RAM.

Your PSU is properly dead. :-\

This is what i'm thinking, a dead PSU again

I managed to get a new copy of win7 64bit in, and had my old cpu and ram running, and was getting a bunch of BSOD's related to hardware, but I couldnt quite track them.

I did boot into safe mode, and install proper gfx drivers/network drivers/audio drivers, etc, and i was still getting hardware BSOD's.

I went into MSCONFIG and shut off the 4 services that were not MS related, and rebooted, and it ran fine for the few minutes I had it in normal mode, tried surfing the net, opening folders, everything, and it didnt want to crap out like it did before.

I then tried reinstalling the new RAM and CPU, fired up the system, went into bios to make sure the settings were reading the ram and CPU correctly, everything was proper, proper voltages and everything, fired up the system, and right at the login screen, it crapped out again.

This leads me to believe it cant be the MB/CPU/RAM because it gets all the way to the login screen before crapping out.

I could only assume, that when it gets to the login screen, and the amount of power being used by the MB/CPU/RAM/HD's exceeds what the PSU is currently capable of putting out, and dies.

Its a 550W power supply, maybe its not sufficient, or maybe its just dying itself.

I suppose, unless there is another way of checking it, my next step is to go and purchase a new 550W, or higher, and see if it works..

Dont really want to spend another 50$ or so, every year i'm replacing a PSU it seems.

Maybe you should get a 650w PSU for replacement? It needs more nowadays.

Well if I get a replacement I think i'm definately going to get something bigger. I was just hoping that it wouldnt be the problem, rather it be a driver issue, but at this point, I think all I can do is replace the PSU and hope i'm not wasting money.

So I never had a chance to go get a power supply yet, however I do have some interesting results so far.

After letting the computer sit off for more than 24 hours, last night I decided it was worth a try to fire it up.

It fired right up, with my new CPU and RAM, and right into windows.
I opened CPU-Z and HWMonitor to check it and everything appears to be ok, other than that the system doesnt seem to like HWMonitor so much. It hangs the system for about 30 seconds or so every time i try to move any screens while HWMonitor is open, or opening the start menu, or basically doing anything, once I close it, the problem goes away.

I then went into the system properties and tried to get a windows experience index to see what the new system would give, and it was testing the DX11/10/9 settings, then i looked away, and it shut off completely again.

I booted back up and without issue managed to get back into windows and had another look at HWMonitor and CPU-Z and everything looked fine again so I went to bed.

This morning the computer was off, I fired it up, back into windows, and checked the error logs in eventvwr, but I could only find a kernal 41 telling me that the computer shut off, which I knew. The last log before that was at 1201, and I left the computer at 1152, so it only ran for a few short minutes.

The computer has been on this morning since I turned it on a 745 without issue, however, I have not stressed the system.
I suspect running the windows index will shut it off.

    Voltages appear to be ok..

I'm testing the RAM right now with the windows mem diagnostic, and might consider using memtest later, but i'm sure its not the ram/cpu/mobo anyway.

Any other tests I can run that might help me pin point the problem?
