I apologize if I posted this in the wrong section, I just have no idea what's wrong so I wasn't sure what to put it under.

Anyway, I've been trying to fix my friend's computer for a few days now and I'm really confused as to what's wrong with it. It won't load any of the free online games she has on it (flyff, mabinogi, etc), nor will it load yahoo messenger. But it'll play browser games just fine, like Neopets or Adventure Quest or something. For some reason if it's a downloaded application then it just shows an error message. All of them do it. However, the computer seems to not have any issues connecting to the internet since it connects to google no problem and I can check email and what not on it. She has already tried re-installing all of the programs having this issue, and nothing has changed. Also, I tried putting some of these games on my own computer and she was able to log in and play them just fine on it, so it appears to be an issue with her actual computer and not the games themselves (or yahoo, which works fine on my computer as well). By the way her computer is a Toshiba with vista home premium 32 bit

    Some example messages...
Flyff - a connection with the server could not be established (CODE: 12029 RESULT: 2)

Rappelz - Can't connect to index server

Luna Online - Fail to connect the server

Rose Online - Patch server down

Yahoo - Doesn't show an error message, it just immediately fails and goes back to the long in screen after you press "sign in"

It sounds like your firewall is blocking access from the games to the internet.

What kind of firewall are you using?

If your firewall gives you any kind of alert/request for permission when you initialize the games, be sure to allow the program to connect. If you are not getting any kind of alert/request, then you should be able to open your firewall and manually select the program you want to have access from a list.

I'm not at all familiar with yahoo messenger, but it sounds like it is having a problem sending the information when you try to sign in; the others are obviously connection errors from the messages you provided.

You could quickly test this idea by turning your firewall off and then attempting to connect with one of the problem programs, just be sure to turn it back on again after you've seen what will happen! :-D
