Computer Won't Power On

Hello fellow geeks,

So I have a computer that I recently installed Windows 10 Home Edition on and everything was going well for about a week, besides getting certain programs compatible. The people that own it told me that the when they tried to turn it on this morning nothing happen, the fans didn't kick on or any sounds at all. The only thing they said was happening was the power button would blink every few seconds or so.

I went over an checked it out. The first thing I did was bring an extra power supply that met the requirements of the hardware and replaced it. The same thing happened no power just a blinking light. I was curious if it was the motherboard that might of went bad, the computer isn't new by any means the last OS that was running on it was Windows 7.

It is a "Dell OptiPlex 745"

Have you check the CMOS battery on the motherboard?
It's a CR2032 rated at 3V.

 

I figured it out, it was the Power Button /Audio /USB Front Panel Controller, I think that's what its called, anyways I replaced it and it powered right up. Thanks for the help Eldon I'll keep that in mind if I have to troubleshoot a motherboard.

Last week I had the exact same problem with a friend's PC. The switch became loose from the power button.
Good to know the problem is fixed.
