Computer wont power up

I have a computer that wont power up at all. ITs a rebuilt Emachine, so the specs are sketchy at best.

The computer belongs to a friend of mine and the last time the computer was on it went through the process of powering down like it would always do. The catch is they didnt tell it to power down and they havn't been able to turn it back on since.

a small detail i should say is that the computer doesnt even go into post, no fans, no hdd etc, but the motherboard is getting power from the PSU.

a recap of what i have done so far..

1) New PSU 450 wat
2) changed out the cmos battery
3) tested a new power button

Any advice?

I would say the motherboard is shot

I herd alot of people say it's a common problem for Emachines to have this issue.

 

The eMachines do have a common problem being the Bestec power supplies. The voltage regulation in the PSU fails and fries the mainboard.

In my shop, every computer that come in with a Bestec PSU gets a replacement unit before I even power it on.

 

Yes, I had a couple of them, identical with exactely the same problem, both of them with the MOBO fried and one of them took the HDD too. He should get a new one.:confused
