Computer won't print

About a month ago both of my printers ( HP Deskjet 3600 and Epson Stylus CX 3810 ) quit on the same day. I tried to figure it out but failed and re-installed the software / drivers but still no operation. No message was given.

Thinking that it MIGHT be a printer problem I finally purchased a refurbished Epson C64 and when I tried to install that I got the message as follows:

There was a subtitle that was something about 16 bit subsystem ( but I forgot to copy it)

C:\Windows\System32\config.NT
The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and MicroSoft Windows applications

None of my 3 printers will print and I can't afford to take the computer in for service- is there anything I can do myself? (The computer is also very slow right now)
