So I never had this problem but for some reason I do now. So my computer has a built in card reader as well, I forgot the model and brand I installed about 3 years ago but it's Rose something. Anyways with that, for some reason it would read memory cards and then one day it stopped, I installed the drivers and that didn't do anything and then I unplugged it from the mother board and plugged it back in and it worked. However the USB port of it always worked when it wouldn't read the cards. Well it kept doing this all the time where I had to unplug it and plug it back in and now I don't even care anymore I just use a card reader. However that's not the problem, I just said that to confuse you all a bit. Well it might be related, I don't know.

The problem I'm having now is that my computer won't read any SD or Micro SD cards at all. However what's odd is that the last time I was able to access my SD cards, the built in card reader on my computer worked as well. Then all of a sudden not sure then both the built in one and external card reader stopped reading SD cards. I've tried various SD and Micro SD cards and they all don't show up in my computer. For example I put my SD card in my card reader and any USB port I plug it into, it will show "Removable Disk (drive letter:)" but it won't show the memory cards, the file size etc. Clicking on it will tell you to insert a disk into the removable disk. However it will read Pro Duo memory cards. So I thought the SD and Micro SD card slots on the card reader got damaged, so I bought another card reader and it's the same thing. It will read the Pro Duo cards but not the SD or Micro SD cards, and then I bought another card reader and it's the same thing. The third time it was a different brand card reader as well.

So then I figured I'll do a system restore to a day before it was working. Well it started working, it was reading the cards again and I made a restore point so I could go back to it if I'm having problems and maybe figure out what's going on. I didn't even install anything either for this to happen. Then when I tried the next day, it stopped reading the cards and the restore point I created disappeared to so I can't do a system restore again.

Can someone please explain this magic to me as to why my PC will read Pro Duo cards or other type of non SD related cards but not SD ones? By the way all the sd cards I've tried work on other devices, and I've tried more than 10 different SD and Micro SD cards. The Card reader does support SDHC and SDXC cards because it was reading them before. I've tried all this on a laptop and it works just fine.

I'm not certain this will pinpoint the issue but, what brand(s) of SD and micro SD cards are you using? There was a recent post here in MG Forums regarding a similar issue and it seems people have been having problems with SanDisk.

Well most of them are SanDisk but I do have some Panasonic and PNY ones. So that's not it either. I really wish I could pinpoint the cause here.

Do you use this external reader on other computers and does it work in those?
