    I am working on a Gateway GT4024 desktop computer. When I turn it on it comes up with Gateway screen containing the notes;

    Boot Menu: <F10>
    BIOS Setting: <F2>

    I get no response from those keys (F10 & F2). The computer goes no further.

    Your clues on how to proceed would be appreciated.

    Have you tried these keys while you are rebooting? Sometimes you may have to try a couple times before it will let you in. I've worked on a few Gateways myself and find them to be quite the pain in the---well they seem to have their own mind at times. Do you get any beeps? Another thing would be to make sure the keyboard is working properly. Keep us posted if you need more assistance.

    sjeylani , please start your own thread. This thread is for GSam's problem and as such, all answers will be for him.

    GSam, it sounds like the keyboard isn't detected. Does the Gateway have a PS/2 port? If so and you were using a USB keyboard or a USB with an adapter, try using a PS/2 keyboard. Sometimes computers have a problem seeing a USB keyboard and you can't get into the BIOS to see what is happening or to make changes.

    Well I'm sorry. I just went in to check the things you ask and Winddows booted up. Earlier I did hit the F10 & F2 keys as soon as I turned the computer on and it has no effect.

    It did this once before, stopped then started working, but for the last dozen times I have turned it on it came up to the Gateway logo window with boot and BIOS keys listed and stopped there and did nothing else whether I hit the one of the two function keys during or after the aborted boot. I will check it a few more times and will post details. Thanks to Vikingman and Plodr for help.

    Fifty years ago when I first got into electronics in the Air Force someone described Hell as a vast room full of electronic equipment all with intermittent problems. I guess I'm just getting ready.

    You have that right about the intermittent problems!
    At least it decided to start working in a reasonable amount of time. :-D
