    hi

i leave my computer on pretty much all the time. ive been doing it for years cause its more convenient for me. never had a problem cause of it. but lately ive noticed that when i wake up i try to wake up the computer from what i think is in sleep mode and i move the mouse and tap the keyboard but it doesn't wake up. what's strange also is the computer seems to be on but i don't see any of the led lights flickering so i turn it off and it turns off. so it's on but its not actively working. i reboot and everything works again. this has been happening every few days or so now i noticed. can anyone tell me what's going on? if it's cause i leave it on all the time then i will stop doing that. but is it ok to put it on sleep or hibernate mode instead?

i am attaching info about my computer.

also i just read in belarc that i need some security updates. i tried googling several times to try to get these but i can't find what i need. can someone point me in the right direction? i would really really appreciate it if someone can help me with that too.

    Hi Michael

Do you know what I get the same on a laptop of mine, and best fix I find is press the power button once and quickly so a press and release in a second and Windows resumes ok,

I think I have traced the issue down to power saving modes in either USB or Networking (Wifi or LAN) going into sleep and not resuming quick enough, now could disable power saving in these devices if you wished.

But try the power button thing first when it happens again and let me know.

    hi david

thanks for the reply. yeah i haven't had the problem i reported shortly after the last post. i think what i did was change the power saving mode like you say. but if the problem returns i will try what you said and report back here.

thanks again for your help. :)

Cheers for the update Michael, and glad the options helped. Yes have come across this many times when sleep or hibernate is used, seems some hardware components just want to snooze longer! than Windows.

Do monitor and let us know if the issue returns and if the power button trick doesn't work and we will have to think of something else. Oh and btw if you have Windows updates that are driver based ones for Wifi etc or update your drivers manually then double check the power saving settings again on those devices.
