Starting about 36 hours ago, my Dell Dimension started saying that the Windows software on it was counterfeit. I bought the computer in Dec 2004. It gave me the option to ignore the problem and I did. I turned off the computer last night as I normally do, and when I tried to turn it on this morning, it didn't come on. The only thing on it that does turn on is a yellow flashing light on the front panel. I tried different outlets and the result was the same.

I haven't installed any counterfeit software.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

$Ms has verified that your operating system is bootleg ...you didn't do as it asked to authenticate the os ....so it's effectively locked you out ....you may be able to buy a little time by doing a repair installation ..but the situation will re-occur.
If you purchased the computer from a "reputable" source...$MS might give you a functional key if they feel that you were duped or purchased the system in good faith ...at worst, at reduced cost ....at very worst, nothing and you will have to go buy a legit xp disk and do the repair install to save all your stuff.
