I have Win 98SE computers & Win 2000 computers that can talk and transfer data from with in DBase IV programs no problem.
But my Win XP Pro computers can not transfer data through the Dbase IV program.
HOwever all computer can access mapped drive on each other and transfer data. through windows drag & Drop method.
Have I not set up something somewhere correctly.
Any one of the computers will operate the Dbase IV proigrams correctly but only have problem transferring data from WInXP to Win 98 or Win 2000 machines through the program ..or visa versa .
I used your service for pay before and you solved my problem quite quickly when microsoft could not.

Firstly you shouldn't post your e-mail address as you will end up with more :spam than you would care to imagine.

Secondly Dbase IV is an ancient program that in it's Windows guise (cobbled together from its original DOS format) was only designed to run under Windows 3.11 IIRC. I'm surprised you haven't yet moved over to something like Access (which will read DB4 files). So in other words XP might just be a step too far for it.

Ron, you should not need to map drives with what I presume is a peer to peer network. this means you are only using windows networking. Since you have 3 computers you must have some sort of hub/router/switch. All the pcs need to be set to using TCP/IP, the same workgroup and a common account on the 2000 and XP ones if you have accounts set.

Luckily Windows XP can do all the hard work all the pcs have floppy drives.

put a blank floppy into the XP drive and go to network connections in the control panel. Choose set up a network from the list of options on the left pane. Follow the instructions including making the network floppy disk.

Use the floppy to transfer the settings to the other computers, restarting as required.

    This should resolve it
