comxml.exe ?

My friend gave me her XP computer to look at. I have never used a PC with XP on it and wanted to see if anyone had any info for me.

She has 512M of RAM and 2600 Athlon processor. It takes at least 1 minute and up to 5 minutes to open everything. When I Ctrl-Alt-Delete into Processes, she has a program called comxml.exe that is sporadically using all of her memory. It will go from 0 to 91 and anywhere through that spectrum. It is constantly changing.

I am thinking it is Prefetch but I don't know if that is the file name that is used. I did a search of her hard drive and cannot find a program called comxml.exe but it is always running, even in safe mode. I have tried disabling prefetch totally and to just use it during boot, but comxml.exe keeps showing up and using all her memory.

Please let me know if anyone has any ideas.

 

Start with installing anti spyware and adware programs, run scans for viruses, etc.

 

I have run adaware and hijack this. Any other recommendations.

 

well dear if i was you id right down the file name boot up in safe mode and do a search for that file name and delete it that should fix it that file doesnt look like anything vital

 

I couldn;t find anything on that filename, it may be a virus or something new.

Can you kill the process from safe mode? Can you search for it in the registry <-- Only if you are comfortable.

 

Do a search for Novell or comxmlrpc see if you come up with anything.
