Concern about a link to freedownloadnetwork.com

While working my way through your recommendations for cleaning my system prior to submitting a hijackthis log, one of the download links (i can't remember which one) led me to a site called "freedownloadnetwork.com". I didn't feel like signing up for the $1 a month this free site wanted to charge me so I went back to an alternative site and got it for free.

The site seemed interesting and based upon the fact I found it through Major Geek, I figured it was legit. BOY WAS I WRONG!

I went back to try it out and found that not only were they going to charge me $48 for a 4 year membership, unless I cancelled within 30 days, they were also going to charge my card another $79.95 per month for some discount program. I didn't read futher, I simply closed the window and shook my head in disgust.

I wish I could tell you where the link was but I can't so I thought the next best thing is to at least warn you and visitors that, however I wound up on this site from MG.. it is something to be very cautious about.

I doubt MG would let an ad run that pointed to some other download site much less one that was a pay site. Have you scanned your machine for spyware by following our tutorial?
