I purchased a new Dell Vostro PC for my stepson. I had a Modem from a defunct Dell Optiplex so I didn't order one with the new PC. It fits perfectly and is recognized as a PCI Communications Device. I found the correct driver and downloaded a self extracting file on my home PC to a 64 MB jump drive because the new one has no internet access (dial up).

The directions say to double click on the downloaded file which will put it on your C drive then "point" the modem to it.

I'm assuming the file will self extract when I plug the jump drive into the new PC, but what do they men by "pointing" it to the modem.

I'm thinking that I go to the phone and modem options in my Control Panel, driver tab, then update driver button, then point it to the extracted files. Does anyone know if that's correct.

    Thanks in advance

    Tom
