configuring ipod for laptop and pc

    ok i want to configure my ipod so when connected to my pc or laptop it won't get wiped and replaced with what's on the laptop or vide versa, if you get me.
    is there a way so that my ipod will be configured to both my laptop and pc and will just update when plugged into either?

    OK thanks halo that article helped loads.
    now my laptop doesn't have any of the media that is on my pc or my laptop. how can i copy the media over to my laptop or is this not possible?
