Configuring Linksys befsr81 as switch

I am attempting to configure a Linksys BEFSR81 as a switch rather than a router. It's important that the linksys doesn't change the IP address of the computer that it is attached to as it is networked with 6 other machines (which are attached to the network thru different sources). We have a Blackthorne(ebay) network set up and the machine can't connect to the Blackthorne network if the IP address is changed by the Linksys router. Please help!

there's a setting somewhere in the router that will let you change it from a gateway to a switch. I can't remember exactly where it's at. I'm assuming this router isnt being used for internet access? as for the linksys model I have, there's no setting in it that allows for setting static ip's. if you think you'd want more control of that router, you might be interested in looking at alternative firmware, like dd-wrt, or tomato. I know in ddwrt, you are able to give out specific ip addresses to any device that connects to it.

I'm going to ask a stupid question.

I read some of the manual just now. I've used a Linksys print server as just a switch and turned off it's IP settings, it was a very basic setting so I went looking for that same thing in your router. I didn't find it. I looked if there was a way to set it as a repeater, usually wouldn't apply to wired, didn't find that either. It has some great functions though!

So here's the stupid ? - is there some function that this router is providing that you need to keep?
