   Can I configure a modem to run at a slower speed on one port? I guess my main question really is does it matter? If the 2nd wired pc doesn't use much more than websites and flash games does it effect my connection? No router. Both wired to modem. Thanks.

   If you have two ethernet ports, then you have a gateway. That's a modem and router in one unit. Modems only have one ethernet port.
