Hi all. Hoping someone can help....again.lol
Dell laptop XPS M1210 running vista(crap) home premium edition. I've had it running well since disabling windows update. Only because I would always get a message that update failed. Then(since about June 15) while in Internet Explorer, I would get error messages.(can't remember what they were something like B79.exe...can't really remember or T84.exe) but I would close the box and continue using IE. Again error would show. A message would come up to check for a solution for the problem and I occasionally would click for a solution. It then would say no solution available. And it would suggest for me to try windows update. And so I did. And now the SOB seems to keep looping when I start up.(configuring updates please wait) When it first started, it said installing update 47 of 50. As mentioned, I had a better working laptop not using windows update because I always would get the message that update failed. Well after 5 hrs of trying all I know, still no luck. I've tried all the options available when pressing F8 at the right time. Still no luck.
This whole mess started after shutting my laptop off and trying to restart. Note: I do remember when looking at details of error that it had something like appcrash around the first line. Also, I was still able to navigate through IE.
Also, I do have the vista installation disk, but if I remember correctly, whenever I ran it, the only option was to reinstall Vista.
    Any suggestions out there?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
    Thanks for your reply.
No, I don't have Sp1 installed. I've had it for about 2 years. It needed a new motherboard just after the first year.
Are you saying that the software experts designed such a crap system? What the hell were they thinking? This shouldn't happen even with a first release. Wake up Windows people!
    Any other ideas or suggestions?
Sorry, it just bugs me and thanks.

I know a new motherboard had nothing to do with it. It was just a fyi.
So after some further investigating, I was able to get the repair function off of the main Vista disk. So all is well.
So, No. You do not have to reinstall windows vista. Sorry windows people.
I should have known better to not believe everything I read.
    Here it is:http://www.tipandtrick.net/2008/end...s-stage-3-of-3-during-vista-sp1-installation/

The first method worked for me.
