A simple question, go straight to to blue text below.

This morning incidentally while typing a comment in MG my PC decides to restart itself, losing all {?) my work, addresses I was currently looking at (I'm sure that all this can be recovered). Maybe I pressed the wrong key, or clicked the mouse when it was over the wrong place, by mistake, I'm not really used to this notebokk keyboard yet (I doubt I ever I ever shall be). Immediately after restart it wanted to install an update to some Adobe product - Acrobat I think - could this have anything to with it ?

Anyway, before it got going again, even before it restarted without problems, it was for several seconds, Configuring Windows" - what does this mean ?""

Windows 7 usually does that after installing some updates. Nothing to worry about.

However, if it was an Adobe Acrobat or Reader update, then it really should not automatically restart Windows, especially without giving you a chance to save your work.

Best way to avoid this: check MG every morning, and install updates before the auto-update mechanism clicks in. :major

Well, there were some Windows patches to be installed (yellow shield) but I had been gnoring them until the time was convenient for me. I noticed the Adobe updates (I can't be certain of which program it was for) because I actually had to do something, I was prompted after the PC had started up again. As I said I might even have pressed the wrong key.

Thanks for the reassurance, I am now fairly sure it was "routine"

Like pwillener said in his post. It's updates you have downloaded and installed once installed it will ask you to restart the computer but you can delay it up to 4 hours for restart. But if you don't select anything as there is a countdown clock once that hits zero the computer will automatically restart itself which might have happened in your case.

It's perfectly normal and there is nothing to worry about.
