conflicts between spyware and Windows

Hello,

I have followed your read me first "How to: Spyware, Trojan And Virus Removal (FYI, I am running on Windows 2000). I have had the following problems:

1. I ran the scans in safe mode with RPC disabled, but I was unable to run the Semantec Security Check. I could open the webpage, but the buttons within the window would not activate.

2. I have also been unable to activate click-on links within Internet Explorer, and I am unable to move folders/files by doing drag and drop. It seems that some functions of Windows and/or Internet Explorer have been disabled. Could this have anything to do with the RPC helper? Should that be turned on again after running all scans? I did try to turn it back on, but when I selected RPC and right-clicked it, the options to start or resume were not highlighted, nor could I open the properties window by clicking on RPC or highlighting it and using the drop down menu.

Other than that I think my machine is pretty clean now. I just need to resolve this issue.

This is not a reply, I am adding to this original thread. I also had three other curious issues after running the steps in you recommend in "How To: Spyware, Trojan and Virus Removal:

1. I get an error message on the RPC when windows opens.
2. My screen background has changed
3. I cannot cut and paste within documents like this one.

did you reset the settings? and why did you bother the RPC? I haven't heard of anyone having to do that.
