Confused about connecting another sata hard drive.

Hi,i recently purchased a new computer running intel dual core.I am used to connecting hard drives with the wider ribbon type connection.
This new computer has 1 hard drive connected by 1 sata connection and 1 serial ata connection.I want add another sata hard drive.
My question is:does this second sata hard drive require it`s own sata connection and a serial ata connection,or just a serial ata connection only?
One reason i ask is this new computer has 3 extra serial ata cables for up to 3 more hard drives,but no extra sata cables.

first off, sata and serial ata are the same. the s in sata is serial. to add another hdd u need a sata cable and a port....

 

Thanks for clarifying.This sata stuff is new to me so i`ll try to clarify.
On my new hard drive there are to cables connected to it,one links from the hard drive to the motherboard,the other links from the hard drive to what seems to be the power supply.
What i need to know before connecting the 2nd drive is:does the 2nd drive need 2 cables connected to it like the 1st drive does,or does the 2nd drive just require cable that links from the drive to the motherboard?

Each drive has to have its own cable, and this includes power. It is not like PATA, where you connected two drives in parallel on a 40-pin ribbon cable. The answer is yes, you will need one cable for each drive connected on the motherboard.

What is the manufacturer & model of the motherboard?

One for power
