I just did the first clean reinstall (I think) of 32bit Vista. Now I guess I need drivers for just about everything, or driver updates.
Is there such a thing as a really good application to detect all the driver updates, etc. needed?

Yup.... also, you should attach an Everest report to your next post... follow the steps in this thread and we can advise after viewing the report. ;)

    Hi MT

As mentioned post the model name and number of your PC or attach the Everest log as it will have all the info we need. I would not advise the use of a driver decective type application as they DO NOT in the majority of cases find the correct driver, the name of the driver maybe similar but OEMs and the Mobo makers do use custom parts from the makers of say Audio chips like realtek and what these apps suggest may not be correct one.

The main driver you will need before any others is the Chipset one, but as said do let us know the PC make and model or the Everest log as we can direct you in right area.

    Thanks everyone.
It took me a while before I was back online to check messages.
My computer is a desktop which was built for me so no make and model.
Asus Vm-20 Motherboard, Nvidia GE Force 88 series GPU, AMD CPU.
    Thanks for the excellent suggestions.
    Things are looking better now.

Everest did a great job. Only problem is that once I saved the report to the desktop I can't upload it under manage attachments in this reply. Error message says invalid.
It is a lengthy report so not too sure if I should try to cut a paste such a big file.
    Thanks again VERY much.

    HI MT

Try running Everest again and this time at the report wizard just choose System Summary Only, this is a slimmer log and should attach ok.

    Hi MT

    Good stuff.

As you have a ASUS M2A-VM mobo then the drivers are here just choose 32bit Vista and then grab the Chipset driver first (second one in the chipset list of drivers) and install it and reboot then install the Audio, Lan/Network etc ones.

If you have any Yellow ! Marks in Device Manager let us know what they are and we can advise as to whats missing.

    Thanks so much.
I sincerely hope the day comes when I can pay this forward as the saying goes by helping others. Actually I do people with some smaller tech problems. Small to me since I have known the answers, but major to the people having the trouble.

    Hi MT

Next you will need to install your Graphics card driver from HERE

Now the Vista rating is 4.5

What would be the best way to keep track of all the current settings and info for a possible future restore or similar? Set restore point with Vista, or a different way maybe?

    Hi M

    4.5 is a great score.

Yes a restore point in Vista is fine, but I would be more looking as a backup to something like Acronis True Image or Macrium Reflect (which is free) I prefer Acronis but its a paid app, but Reflect is free and I did try it in Windows 7 and it works just like Acronis True Image in creating a full image of your HDD so in the event of a crash or issues you can easily recover it via th eboot CD and the saved image, but would save any backup images to DVD (will take loads of Disks) or preferably to external HDD or seperate internal HDD.

    Hi MT

Try Acronis (while not free does have a 15 day trial) just to test that it can pick up the external HDD.
