Confused & Cant Remove Adware/Spyware

    I'm a beginner and cant remove 2 adware programs: My Search - adware/web browser plug in and 2020 Search/Web Browser Hijacker. I have McAfee Antispyware Program and AdAware. Neither could remove them. McAfee's program identifies them, says it removes them, but it doesnt. I scanned in safe mode per McAfee, but still wont work. I tried system restore and that doesnt work. Any suggestions? using Dell 4600 with windows xp. Also have McAfee Firewall & virus scan.

    Have you tried ctrl + alt + del and going into the processes tab and quitting every service that has to do with those proggys. Also if that doesn't work, select start + run and type in msconfig. Select the startup tab and uncheck all of the services/programs that has to do with the adware/virus programs. After you did that select okay and select restart now. After the restart add/remove. If you have to open task manager and terminate the programs that has to do with the spyware/virus programs than try add/removing them. :cool: .

    First go to Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs and see what appears in there. Many times the My Search stuff appears there (under a variety of different names). Check for anything like it and uninstall it.

    Then go to the link below and follow the instructions there (you should also run Ad-aware and SpyBot after booting in safe mode).

    Verify that you have the correct versions and updates for the software listed. Ad-aware has recently changed to Ad-aware SE.
