confusing problem..HELP!

I run win98 SE and lately when I go to a couple of my fav sites (shockwave.com or ionthunder.com) when I click on the game or puzzle to do I get the window that comes up.. BUT it isn't the game or whatever.. it is a mirror image of the page.. and just hangs.. no I don't have a pop up stopper.. most annoying as I need my fix..*L* doubt if it is the site as my friends still go there and have no troubles.. and this just started happening.. HELP!!! any ideas would be greatly appreciated

Tried dumping your temp files?
Scan for adware/spyware/malware recently?

 

yes and yes.. I dump all temp files etc each and everytime I am done with the net.. I should add one more thing.. I can't even DL the windows updates.. I run adaware every other day.. as well as registry first aid.. and scan disk and defrag on a regular basis..

 

what happens whens you try windows update?

I had the same problem with a 98SE machine, finally had to run mcrepair here http://download.microsoft.com/download/msninvestor/Patch/1.0/WIN98/EN-US/mcrepair.EXE
You just answer yes each time the program informs you that the version of the file of your hard disk is more recent than what's installed, then restart.

can't open the URL that was enclosed.. even copy paste didn't find it.. when I try to do the windows update.. I go through the scan.. see the dl that are updates etc.. click on the install now button and the window pops up to do the download/install thingy.. but then it just sits there and does nothing.

 

Right click the link and go to properties, click it, highlight the URL and copy it, paste it in address bar. That should get you there. Steve
