Please some one help me out on this problem, I have a Del pc with one hard drive of 40 partition into two places C and D GB, but I want to change the hard drive to a bigger one of 80 GB, what I did is this, I installed the new hard drive of 80 gb which I removed from a different pc, and formatted it the true MS-dos, after which I partitioned it into two E and F, and installed a system into it, (service pack 3),and is the same system that I installed with the first disk on C, now I have two same system with two different disks on one pc, I now removed the first disk of 40 gb with out formatting it so one system will remain with one hard disk, afterwards and restart the computer it tells me that THE HADR DISK IS NOT FOUND, I removed it and fixed the back the one of 40 gb it says the same thing THE HARD DISK IS NOT FOUND,I now fixed the two back, the computer starts normal with out no problem, but two same systems appearing on asking me to chose from the two system to start, which is normal, but my question is this, why cant it start the system with only one hard disk fixed if not the two, dose it mean that the mother board has recognized the two disks, that it cant not work with one any more,
I now formatted one system in one disk true MS-dos to eliminate the option of two system appearing each time I start the pc asking me to chose, but after that yet two system appears always each time I start the pc, how can I eliminate this, pls help me

It's not impossible to get that sorted, but it isn't simple either. The problem is caused by Microsoft's odd way of dual booting which results in files required to boot the second XP being located on the first XP.

The simple solution is to disconnect the 40GB drive and reinstall on the 80 GB drive. If the 80GB drive is IDE you will need to set its jumpers to Master first though that isn't necessary if it's SATA.

Once that is OK you can set the 40GB to Slave (if necessary) and use it as a data disk.

I have found a solution on the problem titled ( confusion )it was just what Earthling advised me to do that worked it out, but just before i got to your mail, when i removed the first disk and installed the second, i didn't place the jumper at the right position, for this fact the system could not start did not even see the disk, i now placed the jumper at the right position which is master,
But there was confusion there becauise in the hard disk it designed that master should be at the last pins by the left behind eletricity slot wire but at last i noticed true experience that master should be behind nap slot position, offcourse some how is indicated on the hard disk as well

but it is strange because the first disk had no jumper on it but the computer worked fine, which put me into confution also, the jumpers were placed to the first cd drive and the second cd drive as master and slave, all the same i am true,
Great thanks to (Tech support Guy) and every person whom contributed in finding for a solution just for me,expecialy Eathling whom took his time and mind explaining to me what to do, you are wonderfull dear, thanks a lot, with your exprience and knowledge i hope to profit a lot from you in near future, thanks
