I am trying to connect two PC's using a Belkin CAT5e Crossover Patch Cable.
One computer uses XP, the other windows 2000.
    What is the procedure?
    Thanks!

I'm guessing that you already have the cards installed.
Plug them in go to my network places in XP and click on setup home or small office network. Then when that's done it will give you the option do make a floppy to run in your other computers. Do it and you'll be done.

Both computers have ethernet 10/100BaseT cards. I have one computer that's on it's last legs and the other, a new Dell. I am trying to transfer my data files from the moribund unit to the new one. How do I do this with the cross over cable? Simply connecting the two units with the cable doesn't work. I tried to set up a new connection through the network, but can't seem to get it right. Any suggestions?

    Thanks

Even if you get the "network setup up the only transferring you can do is by dragging and dropping. You need a program to transfer a slew of stuff. Hopefully some one will come along that knows some names to give you.
Alright the network part, make sure both your ethernet cards are "loaded" and working properly.
Did you do what I said above? Could you find what you needed as far as "my network places" then "add home or small office network"
The above method has worked for me a hundred times we just need to get the kinks out.
