    That's not true.
    Is this your workplace?
Your best bet is the network administrator.
You will need the workgroup name and password so you can setup your laptop to access the network.
I don't have specifics but you can get them online or here or the net admin. I setup mine last year and I run xp home (desktop), xp pro (old laptop) and a new laptop running vista. Works great now! I had few snags but with internet help I sorted it out.

Sorry that's not much help but you can do it!

Please be more temperate in your reply towards network administrators. They might actually be correct and you might actually be wrong.

XPpro contains capabilities that do not exist in XP (or Vista) home versions. If this were not so there would be no point in having two versions.

There are two types of networks in the Windows world. Workgroups and NT Domains.
A computer cannot be a member of both at the same time.
Most small and home networks are workgroups.
Most business and public sector networks are NT domains.

The main difference between the home and pro versions is the ability to logon to an NT domain.

Home versions can only access workgroups
Pro / business versions can access either workgroups or domains, but not both at the same time.

Home versions cannot be upgraded to acess domains.

    Hope this helps.

If you treat your administrator with respect and he thinks you are sufficiently valuable to the company he might be prepared to set you up with a VPN as a way round the problem.

He did not specify that an admin told him that, in which case I would have said you have no chance. If it's a large company that runs a domain instead of a workgroup then he's out of luck. But if they have a workgroup then he can connect. There are a few ways out of my skill/knowledge that can let him have access but I'm not even going to try to explain or point towards a page that can explain out of lack of knowledge or accuracy of the info.

I did not intend to mislead or give false hope but more info would have kept me from opening my yap;).
