connecting laptop to tv? what cable is needed?

Hi, im trying to connect my laptop to the TV. so i can watch youtube videos/films/ on the tv..

laptop doesnt have a graphics/tv card, that a problem? or can i just use the monitor connection?..

i have a male to male monitor cable, but the TV cable is different, (different pins)

does anyone know what cable i need please? :confused

i tried finding it on ebuyer.com but i couldnt seem to find it, but then again i dont REALLY know what im lookign for.

Basically, it all depends on your TV and whether it is a TV/monitor. A TV/monitor should have several types of video input connectors, such as VGA, S-video, DVI, and RCA video.

What do you mean the TV cable is different?

hi there, the tv i have is fairly new, its got ALOT of plugs at back of it. i wudnt know where to start. BUT i did find a similar tv.. (may help) http://z.about.com/d/hometheater/1/7/F/9/hdtvconnectcables.jpg

as you can see it has a monitor socket (blue) BUT the pins inside i THINK are slightly different.. rolleyes

infact i may be wrong, and probly confusing myself..

The pins of the blue connector looks like the VGA output on my laptop...so you should be able to use your male-to-male cable. After you connect the cables, look for keys on your laptop keyboard that will allow you to switch between laptop monitor to external monitor and depress them a few times to see if you get a response on the TV. The keys are labled FN and one of the secondary uses of the function keys at the top of your keyboard...it would depict a monitor or a screen.
