Ok, so I've been have a problem with my connection and I'm not sure what to do about it. When I'm browsing sometimes it'll load or connect to sites slow, other times it'll try and eventually I get the "Could not find the webpage" or "data not sent" message. I've run scans but nothing is found, I've reset the modem and router and it just does it again after awhile. I have noticed that if I d/c the computer from the network from the windows bar and reconnect it it'll work fine for a bit then I'm back at square one. I'm wondering if this might be a hardware problem or something else. Someone told that they experience this when their firewall is causing the problems but I haven't touched any firewall on the computer. Any help or advice is greatly appreciated.

Are you running any kind of hosts file like from spybot search and destroy?

If the Windows DNS Cache is enabled and you have a large hosts file, it will cause delays loading pages.

Look at the hosts file. It is in C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc\hosts

You can use note pad to open the file and you will probably have to enable viewing system and hidden folders.

ok, i found it but not sure how to enable the viewing system or hidden folders like you were telling me to do. what shows up in the note pad is what looks like IP addresses and stuff.

If you found the hosts file, you already have the ability to view hidden and system folders.

How many entries are there in the hosts file, Just a couple or like thousands?

Unfortunately, That wouldn't be the problem then.

What Operating System is the affected machine running?

    Windows 7 home premium.
A little additional info, I've noticed that when I open a page that has a little more stuff to load it triggers it. If it loads the page a lot of the time it'll show broken links

If you are using Internet Explorer, go to Tools > Internet Options > Connections > LAN Settings and make sure none of the boxes are checked.
