Did you try system restore in safe mode?

Safe mode, as the computer is booting tap the "F8 key" continuously until you get the startup menu. Use your arrow keys to move to "Safe Mode" and press your Enter key.

so if it works in safe mood how do i get back to, and what do i do in safe mood.

just reboot into safe mode as i explained above.

Go to system restore and try an earlier restore point.

Your PC will reboot back into normal mode when it restarts.

when i run cmd prompt and enter the ipconfig, the only thing that comes up is windows ip config, thats it and then it goes back to the cmd pormpt.

doesnt show you any kind of numbers like 192.168.0.1 or anything like that?

if not, id say its a bad nic. might need to replace it.

    cybercep Private E-2

yea shows nothing like that just says windodws ip config on the next line. i did a ping with a number 127.0.0.0.1 or something like that in help and support center but that onyl showed me a few things like that it recevied 4 and 4 and 0. don't now what eklse to do

if you can do a ping to 127.0.0.1 and it sends 4 and receives 4 and lost 0 then its talking.. if you have any other antivirus software runing may want to try disabling those and attempt to get back online again.. or another test go to cmd prompt and try to ping a website like www.google.com.. if you get sent 4 received 4 lost 0 then your nic card is talking to the internet.. if not then either you have a firewall of somekind.. conflicting AV programs.. or a faulty nic card(or drivers)...

if the ping to internet website fails and you turn off all other AV programs including the windows firewall try updating your nic cards drivers by going to start menu.. right clicking my computer.. click on properties.. click the hardware tab.. click device manager.. when this opens expand the network card submenu.. right click on your nic card and click on properties.. click on the driver tab and hit update driver... search for a driver on your pc as there may be a partiton on your computer with the appropriate driver to install... if not you will need to write down the nic card details and find a driver online on another computer and move the drivers from where you download them to one computer to your computer via usb flashdrive...

just a suggestion.. let us know how it all goes...

ok no other drivers avaliable, how do you do the ping with the www.google.com, is it ping www.google.com, how do you look in dhcp to see if its in the right ip address, is their a sub menu for that. its not the nic i don't have a nic card i have adapters and they are working fine. its not my widows firewall, its got to be a driver or ip address is wrong.

ok i figured out a way to fix my lost connection, i downloaded registry optimizer and created a restore point, little did i know, system restore wasn't working and safe mpode wasn't working, so i used the program and it restored my pc back to a working mode. still don't know what caused it to do that, my hypothosis is that it was a power surge or a program i was downloading created a firewall that i could not find to disable. anyway make sure you create a good restore point, i think thats the best way to get your computer back in working mode.cyberfox

    Restore point

Always have a good restore point ready to use, if safe mode fails, if your system restore fails, have a good downloaded application to restore you pc back to a working state. I used regisrty optimizer from majorgeeks regisrty donloads and it restored my pc back to a working state and now i'm back online. it only last for 30 days so you'll have to find another one after that one is up. cybercep

or you can change you system time and date back to before the subscription ended.. but make sure you get it in the bios too or it wont work.. glad to hear you got it working... theres something for me to keep in mind as well. loose internet connection check the registry.. xD

yes to ping google it would be ping www.google.com

to check dhcp all you do is open network places click on show network conections.. then right click your active connection(if the computer has wired connection itll be local area connection or if its wireless it should say wireless connection) then go to properties.. select internet protocol version 4(or it may say tcp/ip v4) and click on properties then it should give you a new window with the option to obtain address automatically or use the following.. if use the folowing is marked then your using a static ip instead of dhcp... also theres should be the option to obtain dns server automatically or use the following.. generally if you use dhcp you will obtain dns automaticall.. but there are cases where you would need to select use the following.. just depends on your situation..

im kinda curious as to why system restore and safe mode werent working.. was the system restore just disabled?

by the way sorry im just now getin back to you.. i sleep all day saturday and work saturday night.. o_O

not sure, just loged on in with safe mode, ran system restore and a message came up after it loaded saying the system cannot be restored to that date, not sure whats going on with that but i have system restore on. not even sure what threw it off, i wish i knew though. cyberfox

wait not a system restore.. chang it in the date and time setting by right clicking your clock in the task bar on the bottom of your screen and choose properties...

then you will have to get into the system bios by pushing f2 as the computer first powers on.. look for system time and change it back to before the subscription ended..

DO NOT use system restore to do this.. you will only lose anything you have done since that date...

sorry for the mixup there.. i should have been more clear...

i was replying to your thread about system restore, nope its not disabled. but i will look into it try to figure out what caused the problem. i know it has something to do with norton security 2009, something when i was downloading that program threw me off and change some settings.

oh... ha.. my fault.. i thought you were trying to go back and get subscriptions to work again.. my mistake.. yea you may even have to uninstall norton and see if it works then reinstall.. you have a norton cd? if so may want to go to norton's website and download thier removal tool then disconnect your computer from the internet and try uninstalling norton and checkin out system restore.. then reinstallin norton ofcourse...

    just an idea though.. xD
now im kinda mad at myself.. i didnt even read where you quoted me.. >.> guess i wont do that again.. hehe

no problem.. let us know how things work out later when you get to play around with it... i know how it is trying to keep computers going and go to work and keep up in school.. im in 3rd semester at a junior college working for degree in CNT(computer networking technology) but hopefully after i get out ill go somewhere with a program more based on computer/network security and/or system maintenence... i think i excel more in system maintenence but i like the security part the best.. xD

but yea good luck with that studying
