connection problem

hello friends,

Quick question, more than likely without a quick answer. Lets eliminate some simple problems first...I am a cable technician and I installed the modem that I am working with. I have good Tx and Rx. Desktop computer has internet connection.

I am trying to connect a laptop with the same cat5e cable that was connected to the desktop computer. laptop shows connected, but the send and received packets are minimal. I can ping another IP address with no dropped packets. I released and renewed 3 times and have the same IP address(checked with tech center to verify correct IP address) so it is not the windows generated. firewall is off

Problem: IE will not open any webpage.

Aside from running some spyware scans via programs like Spybot Search and Destroy, and Adaware, try running a winsock fix: http://www.snapfiles.com/get/winsockxpfix.html
Just download it, run it, then restart your machine.

 

If you connect the labtop to desktop (with Internet connection) with network cable, then you need to enable Internet Connection Sharing on desktop to share Internet connection.
